Gene Pokorny, Principal Tuba
The Arnold Jacobs Principal Tuba Chair, endowed by Christine Querfeld
“For the nuts and bolts of Gene's bio, please see: http://cso.org/about/performers/chicago-symphony-orchestra/tuba/gene-pokorny/
On this site, I want to express my appreciation to those people in the community who have chosen to support the Orchestra by coming to our concerts and finding within the confines of Orchestra Hall a refuge from the day-to-day world. While our audience members may have jobs, positions and roles of significance in our community, the daily grind of those positions may take a person away from the “flow” of what are the truly important things in life. Our increasingly violent and chaotic ”norm” we see on the news can make a place of refuge and reflection even more valuable. Chicago is an extraordinarily rich town with so many cultural assets found in its museums, live theater other venues. So, thank you for choosing to invest in yourselves by coming to Orchestra Hall and embracing the sounds imagined by composers who were looking for greater meaning in their own lives. I feel privileged to be able to give life to the composers’ thoughts and feelings through the tuba.”
